Sacrament of Matrimony/Marriage

"The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the creator and endowed by him with it's own proper laws. God himself is the author of marriage. The vocation of marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the creator.

Marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone through the centuries in different cultures, social structures and spiritual attitudes. These differences should not cause us to forget it's common and permanent characteristics. Although the dignity of this institution is not transparent everywhere with the same clarity, some sense of the greatness of the matrimonial union exists in all cultures.

"The well-being of the individual person and of both human and Christian Society is closely bound up with the healthy state of conjugal and family life." (Catechism 1603)

The celebration of marriage is a special moment when a couple wish to declare before God and their friends their love and their wish to seek God's blessing on them and those who will be encouraged by their witness. By this wonderful sacrament, God gives the husband and wife His grace and help, so that they might face life's journey with great zeal.

If it is part of the Lord's plan this love will be further proclaimed by the gift of children.

How to arrange a wedding in one of our three churches?

For weddings in any of our three chuches, please contact either Fr David or Fr Damien. The priest will arrange to meet you and then agree the provisional date and time for your marriage. He will also give you information and details about the necessary Marriage Preparation Course. Please note that in the Diocese of Salford, you are required to give at least 6 months notice before the date of your wedding.
