From the Burnley Express dated 28th November 1918:  FATAL SHELL WOUNDS

On Saturday Mr. &. Mrs. Waring, living at 23 Bankhouse Street, Burnley received official information that their son, Pte. John Waring, of the East Lancashire Regt., had died in hospital from shell wounds.  He was a grocer's assistant before he joined the Army.  He was 19 years of age, and had been at the front about three weeks.  He died on November 20th from wounds received on November 17th.  Pte. J. Waring joined the Army at the age of 16.  He was discharged on account of his eyesight after 8 months' training, during which time he had been undergoing treatment.  Anxious to do his bit, he re-joined the Colours in January last, and had been in France only three weeks when he made the great sacrifice.  He was much respected by all who knew him.
