Private Mark (Michael ?) Durkin

Died 4th September 1914. Aged 30.

Mark was born in the Dec quarter 1883, Burnley. The son of Martin Durkin and Jane Conley. In the 1891 census the family consisted of Martin 40 born in Ireland, Jane 38, James 14, Mark 7 and Mary 3 all born in Burnley. They lived at 30 Croft St, Burnley.

According to his death record from the army he enlisted in Nelson and as he died early in the war it would suggest he had previously had army experience and was mobilised as soon as the war started.

Lived at 14 Hatter Street

Mark left his effects to his mother Jane.

Mark was buried at Guards Grave Cemetery, Villiers Cotterets, France: Grave Ref; I.22. Son of Mrs. Jane. Durkin, of 9, Meadow St., Burnley.
