Private Charles Graham

24011 Kings own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Missing in Action 17th December 1916, aged 25.

Charles was born about 1891 in Ballinrose, County Mayo, Ireland.

Charles, a tailor, enlisted in the East Lans Rget on the 1st March 1916, service no 25394. On the 10th June 1916, still serving on the home front, he was transferred to the Royal Lancaster’s and on the 15th Oct the same year embarked from Devonport and arrived in Basra on the 2nd Nov.

 

From the Burnley Express dated 17th Feb 1917: Irish League member killed.

News has been received by his widowed mother residing at 17 Tentre Street, Burnley of the death, killed in action in the East, of Private 24011 Charles Graham, King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, on December 17th the last.  He was 25 years of age and single, and before enlisting in April last year was employed by Messrs Hartley of Padiham. Private C Graham is a son of the late Mr Charles Graham, merchant tailor and outfitter, Ballin Street, County Mayo, Ireland.  Deceased went out with his Battalion in October last. He was a Roman Catholic attending St Mary's Church and was also a member of the United Irish League. A brother David is serving in the Royal Flying Corps.

 

Lived at 17 Tentre Street.

Charles left his effects to his mother Bridget, which included 2 field cards(?), 2 letters, photos, 1 religious book and strops.
