Charles was born in Burnley about 1885, the son of Fergus Hall and Sarah Donovan. In the 1891 census the family lived at 5 Healey Row, Burnley. Fegus 43, Sarah 39, James 21, John Thomas 18, Sarah 15, Sylvester 11, Mary Agnes 9and Charles 5.

In the 1901 census the family lived at 14 Stuttard St, Burnley, Sarah a widow aged 50 born in Dublin, Sylvester 22 miner, Charles 14 printer’s apprentice and Martha 7 the granddaughter all born in Burnley.

Charles married Jane Kellett in the Sept quarter of 1909 in Burnley.

In the 1911 census Charles 24 and Jane 27 lived at the Brierfield Post and telegraph Office.

Charles was buried in Ramscapelle Road Military Cemetery, Belgium: Grave Ref;II.C.29.
