Private Alexander Park

49051 2/4th Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Killed in Action 29th August 1918. Aged 19.

Alexander was born in the Sept quarter of 1899 in Burnley. The son of Maria.

Alexander enlisted in Preston on the 18th Sept 1916, he was a coal miner but his service was reckoned from the 9th Oct 1917. He was originally in the South Lancs Regt. And was in Camp at Prees Heath until he embarked for France in July 1918. On the 14th July he was transferred to the Loyal North Lancs and within 6 weeks he was KIA.

 

From The Express and Advertiser dated 21st September 1918:   BEE HOLE COLLIER KILLED.

Private (49051) A Park, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, whose home is at 87 Anne Street Burnley, was killed in action on August 29th. He was formerly a Collier at the Bee Hole pit.

PARK. In loving memory of Private Alexander Park, 49051, of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, who was killed in action, 29th of August 1918, aged 19 years.

 

He was only a lad when he listed.

But his heart was that of a man.

He heard his country calling.

And said "I'll do what I can".

Rest on dear nephew, as the days go by.

No flowers can we place on the Grave where you lie.

For the deep dark waters do keepers apart.

But forever your memory shall remain in our heart.

 

From uncle Walter (in France), aunt Cissie, and cousins Alice, Walter and Jim.

Lived at 87 Anne St.

Alexander left his effects to his mother Maria Irving.

Alexander was buried in H.A.C. Cemetery, West of Cambrai,France: Grave Ref; V.D.
