Private Robert Wrigley.
19096 7th Kings Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
Died of wounds 14th January 1918, aged 29.
Robert was born in Heywood, Lancs. The son of Thomas Alfred Wrigley and Elizabeth. In the 1901 census the family lived at 44 Mount St, Heywood. Thomas 43 iron turner born in Heywood, Elizabeth 40 born in Liverpool. Hannah 20, Sarah 18 both spinners, Robert 12 warehouse boy, Mary 10 and Thomas 8.
The 1911 census saw the family had moved to 36 Vigo St, Heywood. Elizabeth now a widow 50, Hannah 30, Robert 22, silk dresser, Bessie 21 cotton winder (daughter in law), Ethel 20 winder, Thomas 18 silk dresser, Elizabeth 9 and Thomas 8months old the son of Robert and Bessie.

News has been received that two brothers, Private R. Wrigley 19096, of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, and Private T Wrigley, 26761, of the Lancashire Fusiliers, have been wounded. It is remarkable that both were wounded on the same day August 28th, although in different regiments.
Private R Wrigley wounded in the head, had been previously slightly wounded in July, and on the last occasion he considers he was saved by his steel helmet. He is 28 years of age and married with two children. He was formerly a stripper and grinder at Hill Top, and attended St Mary's Church. He enlisted a year ago last Burnley Fair, and went out to the front the following October.
Private T Wrigley was a stretcher bearer in the Lancashire Fusiliers, and was the only one saved out of 4 bearers when he was wounded. He resided at 3 Lindby Street, and is 24 years of age and married. A Weaver at Cooper's Scar Top Mill, he enlisted 7 months ago and had been out at the front 8 weeks. He attended Enon Chapel.

WRIGLEY. Died on the 14th of January from wounds received in action, Private Robert Wrigley 19096, K O R L, aged 29.
He needed no second bidding.
He answered his country's call.
He gave his life for his country.
And the welfare of us all.

Lived at 3 Linby Street.
Robert left his effects to Ivy McCall.
Robert was buried in Rocquigny Equancourt Road Cemetery, Manancourt, France: Grave Ref; X.B.8.
