Missing in Action 8th August 1915, aged 28.
James was born about 1887 in Burnley, the son of Michael and Alice. His father came from Sligo, Ireland and worked in a foundry and his mother was from Blackburn and a Cotton Rover. In the 1891 census along with James 4, there were John 3, and Mary 5 months old and 3 Lodgers. The family lived at 5 Pitt St Burnley.
In the 1901 census the family consisted of Michael 38, Alice 37, James 14, Loom Apprentice, John 12, Mary 10, Sophia 8, Alice 6, Thomas 4, Maggie 2 and Willie 3 months living at 45 & 47 King St, Burnley.
The 1911 census tells us that the family were still residing at 45 King St, Michael 55, Alice 49, James 24 now working in a Colliery, Mary 20, Sophia 18, Alice Ann 16, Maggie 12 and John 7. His parents had been married 26 years and gave birth to 9 children 3 of whom had died.
James is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey. Panels 140 to 144.
