Private Henry (Harry) German
1970 1st Kings own Royal Lancaster Regiment
Died of Wounds 4th July 1916, aged 30.

Harry was born about 1895 in Kendal, the  son of Edward German and Bridget Sherrin. In the 1901 census the family lived at 70 Helena St, Burnley. Edward widower 40 and a Tailor, Albert 19, Banker’s assistant, Henry James 17 bankers assist. All born in Kendal, Annie 12, Jenny 10 and Edward 7 all born in Burnley.

I suspect Harry was in jail at Wakefield Yorkshire for vagrancy at the time of the 1991 census.

Harry enlisted Burnley.

Harry is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France: Pier & Face 5D & 12B.

Son of Edward Lindley German, of 20, Yard 135, Highgate, Kendal, Westmorland, and the late Bridget German.

Brother of Edward German, also commemorated on Thiepval
