Killed in Action 10th August 1915, aged 22.
(Brother Harry was killed 21st May 1917.)
John was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire in the Sept quarter of 1893.
Harry was born in the March quarter of 1896, Burnley. The son of Peter Haney and Mary Jane McCabe. In the 1901 census the family lived at 19 Hull St Burnley. Peter 47 tailor from Bolton, Mary Jane 41 born in Stockton on Tees, Mary Hannah Brown 23 weaver, Peter 11, James 10, Thomas 9, John 7 all born in Middlesbrough Yorks., Martha 6, Henry 5, Joseph 3, Nora 2 and mary Jane 6 months.
By the time of the 1911 census the family had moved to 40 Ashworth St, Burnley. Mary Jane now a widow aged 51, Thomas 19, John 17,, Martha 16, Henry 15, Joseph 13, Norah 12, Mary Jane 10 and a boarder Joseph Banks.

News has been received by Mrs Haney of 33 Springfield Road Burnley of the death of her son Private John Haney, of the 6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (TF), who is officially reported as having been killed in action at the Dardanelles on August 8th. Private John Haney who was 22 years of age, was by trade a slay-maker, and at the Outbreak of the war was working at Heywood. He immediately joined the Rochdale Battalion of territorials (6th Lancashire Fusiliers) and went out soon after with the Territorial division to Egypt. He is however a Burnley young man, and was connected with St Mary’s Roman Catholic day and Sunday schools.
Lived at 33 Springfield Road.
John left his effects to his mother Mary Jane.
John is buried in Redoubt Cemetery, Gallipoli: Grave Ref; Special Memorial. A.67.
