Private William I'Anson.

19151 6th King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.

Missing in Action 9th February 1917.

 

Williams parents,  John I'Anson and Margaret Palmer were married in the September quarter of 1897 in Burnley

William was born in the March quarter of 1898 in Burnley.

 In the 1911 census the family were living at 32 Thursfield Road Burnley.  John 37 Chair maker born in Preston, Margaret 38 born in Clitheroe William 13, John 12, Jane 10, Ellen 7, Thomas 5, Ida 2, Fred 11 month and John's mother Elizabeth 74 hours ago all the children were born in Burnley.

 

From the Burnley Express dated 3rd March 1917: YOUNG BURNLEY SOLDIER KILLED.

Official information has been received of the death in action on February 9th of Private William I’anson King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, son of Mr John I’anson of 32 Thursfield Road Burnley.  Private I’anson who only attained his 19th birthday in December last, enlisted in July 1915, prior to which he was employed as a wood turner at Mr Palmers timber works in Holme street, where his father is also employed.  He was educated at the Todmorden Road Council school, and subsequently attended the services of the Christian Brethren now held in Fleet Street, and of which his father is a Superintendent. A younger brother is in the Navy.

 

Lived at 32 Thursfield Road.

William is commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq: Panel 7.
