Private Albert Martin.
24999 15th Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
Killed in Action 11th July 1916, aged 32.
Albert was born in the Sept quarter of 1884 in Burnley. His mother was Mary Martin, nee Quigley. In the 1891 census He was living with his mother Mary 29 born in Carlisle at 6 Walton St, Burnley.
In the 1901 census he was at 13 Dean St, Burnley with his Aunt Annie Quigley 31 and his mother Mary 38, both cotton winders. Albert was 17 and an apprentice mechanic.
In the 1911 census Albert was lodging with a Edwin Maslin at 2 Laburnum St Blackpool. Aged 27 and single, his occupation was a slaters labourer.
Albert enlisted on the 29th May 1915 and was posted to the 20th Battalion of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. In the Nov of 1915 he was temporarily released to go and work in munitions at Rushton and Proctors Co. Ltd., Sheaf Iron Works, Lincoln. Whilst there, he was arrested for being drunk and assaulting the manager of the Iron Works. An escort was asked for and supplied and he was taken back into service. He was posted to the 15th Battalion and embarked for France from Folkestone on the 18th March 1916 and joined his Battalion at Etaples. He was killed in action in the July of 1916. There are varies dates for his death. The CWGC give it as the 10th July, the Report on Soldiers Effects as the 11th and www.Burnleyatwar.info the 7th.
Lived in Blackpool, formerly 13 Dean Street.
Albert left his effects to his wife Isabella Martin of 2 Laburnum St. Blackpool.
