Frank was born on the 8th Oct 1886 in Burnley, the son of Hugh McManus and Ellen Foley. In the 1891 census the family lived at 15 Pear St, Burnley. Hugh 30 weaver born in Ireland, Ellen 30 weaver and born in Ramsbottom, Lancs, Norah 5 and Frank 4.
In the 1916 Canadian census Franks was 28 and living at 8376, 2nd Ave, Edmonton, Alberta. He and his wife Mary (30) who was born in Ireland, had two children Mary (3) and Francis (1) who had been born in Alberta. We also find out from this census that they had emigrated to Canada in 1911. Frank was already in the forces.
Frank married Mary Catherine Perry in the March quarter of 1909.
By the time of the 1911 census Frank and Mary were living at 3 Catlow St, Burnley and had already had one child who died in infancy.
According to his Attestation Papers for the Canadian Army he had previously served in the Lancashire fusiliers. He enlisted in the Canadian army on the 6th Jan 1915.
From the Burnley Express dated 18th August 1917:
Mrs McManus, Mitella Street, Burnley, has had unofficial word that her son Frank who was in a Canadian Regiment has been killed in action.
Born in Burnley, lived at 8136.92 Ave. Edmonton, Alberta.
