Missing in Action 13th May 1915, aged 33.
From the Burnley Express dated 16th June 1916. AFTER EIGHTEEN YEARS. BURNLEY SNIPER KILLED IN YPRES ADVANCE.
Official confirmation was received last weekend by Mr Noon of 79 Leyland Rd, Burnley, that his son Pte (5418) John Noon of the 1st East Lancashire Regiment had been killed in action. The relatives had earlier received word from a soldier of John’s sad fate in the British advance at Ypres on May 13th in the region of Shell Trap farm, a bullet entering his head and causing instantaneous death. The comrade in offering his condolence to the Noon family said that John had been one of the regimental snipers, having been out day and night after the Germans.
Pte Noon enlisted when he was 15 years of age and had served 18 yrs. He had been out at the front since the outbreak of hostilities.
His brother James, as an ex-soldier, re-enlisted in the East Lancashires and has served at the front, being sent back to this country shortly after Christmas through frost bitten feet. He has returned to duty and is at present in this country.

John lived at 79 Leyland Road.
John Left his effects to his brother Edward.
John is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Belgium: Panel 34. Brother of Edward Noone, of 52, Hull St., Burnley. Served in the South African Campaign.
