Denis was in South Africa fighting in the Boer War and was in the Royal Field Artillery. I cannot find him in the 1901 census so presumably in was still in South Africa with the forces.

From The Express and Advertiser dated 9th August 1916: THE DEATH ROLL. BOER WAR HERO. ONE KILLED AND TWO WOUNDED OUT OF FOUR.
During this weekend Mrs Rogers of 53 Bridge Street Comber received an official notice that has no further news had been received of corporal Denis Rogers (9640), of the 6th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers (TS), who had been missing since August 7th 1915, the Army Council had been regretfully constrained to conclude that he was dead and that his death took place on that date or since. This is one of Mrs Rogers four soldier Sons. Corporal Denis fought all through the Boer War without a scratch, and when the present war broke out he joined the 6th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, and went with them to the Dardanelles, being in the landing at Suvla Bay. Since then nothing has been heard about him and it must be presumed that he fell during that strenuous struggle. Denis who was aged 37 years and unmarried, lived latterly in Walsden at 12 Garibaldi Street, and was employed by the local Tannery firm.
His brother, Private James, is in the 2nd Manchester's, and fought at the Marne and La Bassee being wounded in the latter battle. He has now recovered and is now serving in France with the signallers. Sergeant Owen Rogers of the 6th Lancashire Fusiliers was wounded in the Dardanelles fighting and is now in France. Private John Rogers of 5th East Lancs is at present on home service. Two brothers-in-law, 2 nephews, and several cousins are also in the army. The brothers-in-law are in the 1st East Lancashire Regiment and the 11th East Lancs (Burnley Pals).
Lived at 12 Garabaldi Street, Walsden, formerly 53 Bridge Street.
Denis left his effects to his mother Margaret, sister Kate and brother Owen.
Denis is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli: Panels 59 to 73, 218 &219. Son of Michael and Margaret Rogers, of 90, Anne St., Burnley.
