Alfred married Mary Ann Fleming in the Sept quarter of 1905 in Burnley.

News has been received of the serious illness in France of Farrier Staff Sergeant Alfred Stowe, Army Service Corps, whose home is at 30 Nairne Street Burnley. Mrs Stowe got intimation on Saturday that she might go over to see him, and the pass arrived on Sunday. She left on Monday morning and would in the ordinary course reach France yesterday. According to the news received on Saturday and Sunday, her husband was in hospital dangerously ill from pneumonia.
Stowe had served 7 years in the army as a Shoeing-Smith, and was called up as a reservist when war broke out. He soon left for France. He re-joined his regiment as a Corporal and has been twice promoted at the front, being now Farrier Staff Sergeant. Prior to the war he was employed at the Ironworks at Messrs' Butterworth and Dickinson. Now 33 years of age he was married about 10 years ago and had one boy. Mrs Stowe's mother is Mrs Fleming, of 121 Sandygate Burnley. Mrs. Stowe is accompanied on her journey to France by her husband's sister. The relatives in Burnley had received no further news up to yesterday afternoon.
From the Burnley News dated 1st April 1916: BURNLEY SERGEANT’S DEATH IN HOSPITAL.
Staff Sergeant Alfred Stowe, ASC, whose home was at 30 Nairne Street Burnley, has died in hospital. We announced on Wednesday that his wife and sister had left for one of the military hospitals in France, where Sergeant Stowe was lying dangerously ill. Unfortunately his illness has proved fatal, and his death will be sincerely regretted by his many friends in Burnley, and especially among the congregation of St. Mary Magdalene by whom he was held in great respect. Sergeant Stowe was on the reserve when the war broke out, but he immediately re-joined the army and was soon drafted to France. He formerly worked for Messrs' Butterworth and Dickinson. He leaves a widow and one child.

Alfred left his effects to his widow Mary Ann.
Alfred was buried in Ste. Marie Cemetery, France: Grave Ref; DIV.19.V.1. Husband of Mary Ann Stowe, of Burnley, Lancs
