From the Burnley Express dated 07/10/1916: Young Soldier Killed

Mrs. Collinge, of 58, Robinson Street, Burnley, has now received official intimation that her husband Pte. John J. W. Collinge (18492), of the East Lancashire Regiment was killed in action on July 1st. Pte. Collinge, who was 22 years of age, was a tinsmith at Messrs. Morris and Wilkinson’s works before enlisting on January 2nd, 1915. He had been on active service over 13 months, and up to the commencement of the big push escaped injury. He was a member of St. John’s R.C. Church, Ivy Street. He was first of all officially reported missing.
