From the Burnley Express dated 6th October 1917: Pocket Wallet Found.

Mr and Mrs Jamieson 13 Brunswick Street Burnley, have been informed of the death of their only son, Private James Jamieson (19), 201152, King's Own Royal Lancasters.  The information was contained in the following note: "Mr Jamieson, 13 Brunswick Street Burnley, - Herewith one pocket wallet found on the body of 201152, Private J Jamieson, who was killed in action on 20/9/17-H.R. Hart, Capt. and Adjt."  the wallet contained letters and photographs which the family at once recognised as belonging to their son. Private Jamieson was one of three apprentices of Messr's Smith Brothers, Builders and contractors, Burnley who had always "chummed" together.

One of them, Private Parker of Blakey Street, was killed about 12 months ago. The other Private H Butterworth, of Culshaw Street has been severely wounded, and in consequence is likely to be crippled for life. At the time of his enlistment at Ulverston, in November 1915, Private Jamieson was only 17 years of age and was working as a bricklayer on a contract being carried out by his firm at Barrow.  He was sent abroad in March of this year and had been in several lively engagements. As a boy at school he won a swimming certificate. He attended evening classes at the Technical School.

Lived at 13 Brunswick Street.

James left his effects to his mother Sarah.

James is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium: Panels 18 to 19. Son of Thomas Jamieson, of 13, Brunswick St., Burnley.
