Robert was born in the Dec quarter of 1870 in Burnley. The son of Patrick McAleese and Catherine Burns. In the 871 census the family was living at 6 Back South St, Burnley. Patrick 43 a tailor born in Antrim, Ireland, Catherine 36 born in Galway, Ireland. Jane 16 born in Oldham,, Daniel 14, Margaret 12, John 10, Mary 8, Edward 6, Elizabeth Anne 2 and Robert 5 months.
By the time of the 1881 census their growing family had moved to 27 Master St. Patrick 52, Catherine 48, Daniel 24, Margaret 22, John 20, Mary 19, Edward 17, Elizabeth 12, Robert 12, Thomas 9. All the children born in Burnley.
Still living at Master St in the 1891 census, there is no mention of their parents as daughter Mary is head of the family at 29 a store keeper. Edward 27, an iron turner, Elizabeth 22 weaver, Robert 20 a clothlooker, Thomas 19 a weaver.
Robert married Mary Agnes Hargreaves in the June quarter of 1899 in Burnley.
In the 1901 census, Robert 30 is living at 10 Clock St, Burnley with his wife Mary 25, and son John aged 1.
From the Burnley Express dated 11th of January 1919: Taken ill on Leave. Died at Primrose Bank Hospital.
There was a soldier's death on the last day of the old year at Primrose Bank hospital, and a sad feature was the fact that the man was taken ill whilst on leave, after serving over 3 years in Egypt. Private (28813) Robert McAleese Kings Liverpool Regiment, whose home was at 11 Paradise Street, enlisted in December 1914 and went to Egypt a year later, having been there 3 years when he came home on leave. Whilst at home he was taken ill, and was taken to hospital and died from malarial fever after two days in the institution. He was aged 48 years and had been 29 years an Oddfellow. He was formerly a cutlooker at Lancasters Stoneyholme Mill, and attended St Mary's RC Church on the roll of honour of which he was.

Robert was buried in Burnley Cemetery, England: Grave Ref; Screen Wall. A16537. Husband of the late Mary Agnes McAleese.
