Private Fred Meek

Killed in Action 1st July 1916, aged 27.

Fred was born in the June quarter of 1889 in Burnley. The son of Frederick Ellison Meek and Catherine Crook. In the 1891 census the family lived at 26 Clarence St. Fred 27 miner born in Bristol, Catherine 23 born in Preston, John 3, Frederick 2, and Annie 2 months all born in Burnley.

By the time of the 1901 census the family had moved to 7 Lincoln St, Burnley, Fred 37, Catherine, John Wm 13 weaver, Frederick 12, Annie 10, Ada 8, Richard 5, Eleanor 3 and Thomas 1.

They had moved again to 14 Marlborough St Burnley at the time of the 1911 census. With 2 additional children, Florence 7 and Kate 4.

Lived at 52 Hollingreave Road. Son of Frederick and Catherine Meek, of 9, Prescott St., Burnley.

Fred left his effects to his father Frederick.

Frederick is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France: Pier and Face 13A & 14C.
