Charles was born in the Dec quarter of 1891 in Stockport Cheshire. The son of Charles Pierce and Mary McNamara. In the 1901 census the family lived at 40 Marlboro St, Burnley. Charles 40 labourer born on St Helena, Mary McNamara 38 born in Ireland. Mary A 18, Kate 15 born in Stockport, Hannah M 13, Charles 9 born Stockport, Beaty 7, John T 3 and grandfather Charles 69 born in Lewes Sussex. All the other children were born in Burnley.
In the 1911 census the family had moved up a few doors to 50 Marlboro St. Charles 51, Mary 48, Charles 20, John Thomas 14m Kate Law (Pierce) 24, Henry Law 23, Beaty Law 6, Henry Law 3, James Wm Law 2 and Mary Ann Law 1. His parents had been married at least 38 years had 7 children 2 of whom had died. All living in 4 rooms.

On Saturday Mrs Pierce of 41 Milton Street Burnley, received official notification that her elder son Private Charles Pierce, 1/5th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment (Territorials) had died from wounds received in action at the Dardanelles, the presumptive date of death being June 14th. Private Pierce who was 23 years of age on May 15th, enlisted in September, and immediately went away with the territorials for training at Turton near Bolton, and later to Egypt. Before enlisting he had worked as a weaver at message Thompsons shed in Trafalgar Street. He was connected with St Mary's Catholic church where he was a regular attendant and was known and respected as a young man of fine character. His younger brother John Thomas Pierce, is with the Burnley Howitzers.
From The Express and Advertiser dated 9 October 1918: DANGEROUSLY WOUNDED.
Mrs Pierce of 6 Gresham Place Burnley, got a telegram on Saturday intimating that her son, Driver John Thomas Pierce, RFA, is dangerously wounded at a Casualty Clearing Station in France, with bomb wounds in jaw right arm, and abdomen. He is 21 years of age and has been in the army three-and-a-half years, joining the Burnley Howitzers. He had been out two and a half years. He was formerly employed as a Slater at Mr Ormerod Whittaker's and attended St Mary’s Roman Catholic school and church. His brother Private Charles Pierce was killed in the Dardanelles 3-years last June.
Lived at 41 Milton Street.
Charles left his effects to his mother Mary.
Charles is buried in Twelve Tree Copse, Gallipoli: Grave Ref; Special Memorial C 26.
